2 Days Gorilla Trekking & Bisoke Hike Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda
Early morning pick up from Kigali (around 4:00am), immediately drive north-west to Musanze at the foothills of the pre-historic Virunga ranges. Arrive at around 6:30am and immediately transfer to the briefing point. Just like most expeditions in Volcanoes National Park, a typical Hiking Day of Mount Bisoke begins at the park headquarters of Kinigi at 7.00am with a simple briefing and at around 8.00am, you set off for the hike led by a ranger who has a wealth of experience in hiking adventures at Bisoke Mountain.
It is a simple hike that even the novice can summit it and descend down on the same day. The starting point of the trek is roughly a 40 minutes’ drive from the park headquarters and on a very bumpy road. Porters are always available to help you carry your luggage during the hike. During the ascent, trekkers regularly encounter some mountain primates, including monkeys, baboons and given a minute or two to view or take a photograph while in the hiking trail though photography is limited.
Finally you’ll arrive at the mountain top of Bisoke, where there’s a largest and most spectacular Crater Lake in the nation, and one of the most scenic views travelers will ever have above Rwanda and D.R. Congo. It is one that can never disappoint all sorts of eyes. The Crater Lake is so prepossessing covered with a large cloud cover that makes the temperatures here relatively high. Yes, it is worth all steps taken up.
Spend time taking pictures, eat your packed, relax, refresh and soon begin hiking down. The descent is quite faster and you will arrive at the lodge early evening. Transfer to the hotel for a hot shower, and refresh from this adventure excursion.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park & Transfer back to Kigali
Enjoy your early breakfast and head off to the park headquarters at Kinigi for a simple briefing by the park rangers. By 8:30 am the ranger guide will take you to the starting point of the gorilla trek.
Gorilla groups will be allocated to the guests and these are randomly selected; however visitors can always request the favorite gorilla family basing on the age, physical and health fitness. And our experienced guides have over time built a mutual relationship with the park officials. They can talk to them before time on your behalf and express the visitors’ interests in a specific gorilla group.
A gorilla trek may last from 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on the movements of these gentle giants. Upon return, your driver guide will transfer you back to Kigali and drop off at your hotel or at the airport for a scheduled onward flight.
