4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On arrival at Kigali Airport, you will clear customs and collect your baggage. A representative will be waiting to welcome you and brief you entirely on the safari at hand. Take a cup of coffee and get energized from a long flight and prepare to transfer north – wards Volcanoes national park. You will be transferred direct to your hotel, check in and have lunch.
After lunch, take a leisurely drive to the base of Mount Muhabura which is home to the mesmerizing twin lakes. A tour to the twin lakes is marked with magnificence of nature wonders, the green clam waters of Bulero and Ruhondo, probably because of the surrounding green vegetation that encloses the water, making them superbly magical. The trip to these impressive lakes offers tourists with stunning views of Rwanda’s amazing landscape, the wetland habitat, Virunga ranges, uncountable water birds, local communities and several attractions both in Rwanda and her neighboring countries of Uganda and D.R. Congo. Overnight stay at your lodge on the outskirts of Volcanoes national park.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in PNV
After an early breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be taken to Volcanoes National Park headquarters to join your group for a briefing before starting your gorilla tracking experience. The trek follows the footsteps of the rare and critically endangered Mountain Gorillas, the largest living primate on earth, from the cultivated foothills of the Virungas marked with other mountain dwellers, including buffaloes and elephants. The rainforest is alive with colorful bird calls, butterflies, monkeys, baboons and other primates. The Virunga Mountains, though are among the highest in Africa but can be easily accessible.
Upon meeting them, you’ll be allowed to stay with the gorillas for an hour, watch them feed, play, rest and care for their young ones. Having an up close personal encounter with a giant silverback is without doubt one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth! You will then trek back to the starting point where your guide will be waiting to drive you back to your hotel for a well-deserved shower and lunch. Spend the afternoon resting at the balcony of the room, meditating about this great adventure.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in PNV
You will have another early breakfast at your hotel and then will be taken to Volcanoes National Park headquarters, where you will join your group for a briefing at 07:00 am before starting your second gorilla tracking experience. The afternoon option is visiting Iby’Iwacu cultural village, the Ex-Poachers Village and an award-winning conservation initiative, where former poachers were convinced to renounce their obstinate ways and turn into conservation activists.
Together with their families, they started this little community village with a replica of the King’s palace, where they now participate in eco-tourism showcasing Rwandan culture and traditions. A tour at Iby’Iwacu village is very interactive, educational and fun for all ages.
Day 4: Visit Musanze Caves & Transfer to Kigali
Early morning tour to Musanze caves. These are historical caves on the outskirts of Musanze caves that date back to the ancient Rwanda, and a renowned refugee for numerous bats. Return to the lodge for a cup of coffee, check out and drive to Kigali. Upon arrival you can take Kigali city trip including the visit of Genocide Memorial museum at Gisozi, contacts with local people for the discovery of artisan products (Collar, Bracelet, etc.), shopping at Kigali craft market and then transfer to the Kigali international airport for your onward flight.
