Detailed 3-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

In the morning after breakfast, our experienced driver guide will pick you up from the lodge where you spent the night and begin your transfer to Akagera National Park. The journey will give you an opportunity to enjoy amazing views of the thousand hills of Rwanda covered with alluring lush.

You will have a stopover at various tea and sugarcane plantations that are as extensive as the eye can see and take memorable pictures and videos. You will also have your lunch here and then proceed to check in at your pre-booked lodge.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Ride

Today, wake up early and head off to the park with packed breakfast and drive to the interior to begin your early morning game drive with a ranger from Akagera Game Park. These rangers know all the spots with wildlife. You will view large herds of elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, prides of lions, a variety of savannah birds, and much more.

Return to the lodge, enjoy lunch, and head out for an afternoon launch cruise on Lake Ihema. Expect to view many animals on the shores of the lake, including crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, herds of elephants, lizards, and lots of birds. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali

Wake up, have breakfast, and later set off for Kigali for drop-off at either your hotel or Kigali International Airport. However, with an early arrival, you can embark on a short city tour in Kigali City; visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site in Gisozi (which still stores the remains of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide), big market centers like Kimilonko, Kigali Craft Market, Presidential Palace Museum, etc. Be dropped off at the airport for your onward flight.
