Are you put off by the 8 to 10 hour drive from Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda? This 2-Day Bwindi Gorilla Tour from Kigali is both affordable and a much shorter drive.
You’ll spend only 4 to 5 hours on the road. The drive would be shorter still if not for Rwanda’s speed limit of 40 to 60 km per hour. See the detailed itinerary for this 2-day gorilla trekking tour below.

Detailed 2-Day Kigali Bwindi Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your guide will pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, have lunch if needed, and take in a few more stops around the city before the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
On arrival at the park, check in to your lodge and rest ahead of your gorilla trek the next day. Dinner and overnight stay at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Departure
Have an early breakfast in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
After breakfast, drive to the trailhead for a short briefing from park rangers, covering the rules and guidelines for gorilla trekking.
You’ll also be assigned a gorilla family during this briefing. Afterward, set out on your trek to find them. Trekking time runs 2 to 8 hours, including a full hour spent with the gorillas.
After the encounter, trek back to the starting point to collect your gorilla trekking certificate, return to your lodge for lunch, then begin the drive back to Kigali.
The return drive takes another 4 to 5 hours, and you’ll be dropped at the airport or an accommodation of your choice in Kigali.
