Detailed 4-Day Uganda Gorillas & Golden Monkey Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On this day of your 4-Day Uganda Tour from Kigali, our company guide will pick you up in the morning from the hotel or airport in Kigali to begin the journey southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

It’s a 4-5 hours’ drive with plenty to see, including rolling landscapes, undulating terrains, and bustling towns full of life.

Cross via Katuna border and stopover for lunch in Kabale town. Feel free to request any stopover for photography or scenic viewing during this Uganda safari journey to Bwindi.

Continue to Rushaga sector of Bwindi and arrive in the evening to check in at your lodge.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

This is the most enjoyable day on your 4-Day Uganda Tour from Kigali. Wake up early for breakfast and with your trekking gear, packed lunch, bottled water, and some snacks, leave the lodge and transfer to Ruhija briefing point to join other trekkers.

At the briefing, you will be organized into a group of eight persons and assigned to a specific gorilla family. Thereafter, head into the jungle, led by an experienced gorilla tracking guide as you search for a family of mountain gorillas.

Gorillas tend to prefer the deepest and most remote parts of the forest, so be prepared for a trek to where they are located.

This trekking experience lasts between 1 hour and 8 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movement. Once you find them, spend one hour taking pictures/videos and learning more about their behaviors as explained by the ranger guide.

Transfer back to the lodge and spend the rest of the evening reflecting on this great adventure.

Day 3: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

This morning of your 4-Day Uganda Tour from Kigali, leave Ruhija and head to Kisoro via the Kisoro – Kabale highway. Pass through the curvy highlands of Kisoro, lush vegetation, terraced farmlands, and Echuya forest reserve, home to a myriad of primates including vervet monkeys and olive baboons. All these will grace your journey until you reach Kisoro.

You will be greeted by the towering smoky triplet volcanoes – Muhabura, Sabyinyo, and Gahinga mountains, part of the larger Virunga chain of mountains.

Check into your lodge, have lunch, and relax until late in the evening. Take a stroll through the neighboring native communities, notably the Batwa, to explore their way of life, history, cuisine, and traditional dances.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Kigali

Have breakfast in the morning and transfer to the briefing point. After the briefing, head into the forest with your guide who will lead you to where these rare golden monkeys are located.

Golden monkeys are some of the most endangered and elusive primate species, endemic to the foothills of the Virunga ranges, in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda as well as Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Once you encounter them, spend up to one hour interacting, taking photographs, and learning about their way of life, family composition, and conservation status from your guide.

After this activity, have lunch and immediately depart Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for Kigali. This scenic journey from Kisoro district to Kigali City includes several stopovers for capturing pictures or admiring breathtaking landscapes.

Arrive in Kigali in the early evening, marking the end of your 4-Day Uganda Tour from Kigali with drop-off at your preferred hotel or Kigali Airport (if your flight is scheduled for the evening).
