6 Days Uganda Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast at your accommodation or pick up from Kigali airport on day one of your 6 days Uganda safari from Kigali, drive to the north of the country. If you have time, take a brief tour in Kigali city to have spectacular views of the shopping malls, genocide museums, craft markets, etc. Depart right away for Kibale Forest National Park via Katuna boarder in Kabale and arrive in Kibale national park in the evening.
Kibale is popular for its exceptional population of primates like the endangered chimpanzees, Colobus monkeys, mangabeys, red tailed and Vervet monkeys. On a typical chimpanzee trek, these are regularly seen swinging in the trees and others feeding on the wild fruits. You will arrive in Kibale in the evening and check into your accommodation where you will have dinner and the overnight rest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Swamp Walk
After breakfast on this second day of your 6 days Uganda safari from Kigali, undertake the unforgettable experience of trekking chimpanzees within Kibale forest. The trek commences at 8:00am, after a 30 minutes’ briefing session. The Chimpanzee trekking experience normally lasts 2 – 5 hours, including one hour of direct encounter with these incredible and rare primates. Apart from watching chimpanzees, this rain forest is home to numerous species of primates that call it home; these include baboons, Bush-babies, Colobus monkeys, Mangabeys and an array of squirrels.
Return to the lodge for lunch or have a picnic lunch from a camp site in the forest. In the afternoon, begin a nature walk in Bigodi wetland. The walk enables you fully explore this ecologically diverse habitat. Head off for a walk in the impressive Bigodi Swamp sanctuary to enjoy birding and get exposed to the exceptional wetland flora and fauna that inhabit the swamp. Return in the evening to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Evening Boat Cruise
Queen Elizabeth National park is your next destination on this day of your 6 days Uganda safari from Kigali. Quite popular in Uganda and beyond, Queen Elizabeth national park is a vast park where wildlife and people coexist in harmony. Arrive early enough and in the afternoon you go for a 2 hour boat cruise on Kazinga Channel, which joins Lake George and Lake Edward. The cruise exposes one to various bird species (both endemic and migratory), large mammals, cats and reptiles. After the boat cruise, you will retire back to the Lodge for relaxation.
Day 4: Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After a daybreak cup of coffee, set off to an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth National park. This early game drive will offer you amazing viewing opportunities, for variety of animals such as antelopes, elephants, buffaloes, bush bucks, water bucks, and so many birds.
Proceed with an en route game drive to Ishasha sector to track the tree climbing lions. This section of the park is well endowed with the rare climbing lions together with other wild game that make this sector an interesting place for epic game viewing opportunities. After this encounter, proceed on the drive to Bwindi arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Behold, today is gorilla trekking day! Rise up early and feel the excitement as you get ready for this unforgettable jungle experience. You will transfer from the lodge to Ruhija starting point. Once there, join other visitors for a pre-trek briefing and begin the expedition at about 8.30am. Trek through the impenetrable jungles of Bwindi until you find a gorilla family. Once you see a family of gorillas, you will be around to spend up to one hour with them, while photographing, learning more about them, and observing them at a close range.
You are expected to be back at the starting point after that and immediately transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district. Lake Bunyonyi is a remarkable lake formed by ancient volcanic movements, known to be the deepest in Uganda and second deepest in Africa after Lake Tanganyika. While here, spend the evening on a dugout canoe exploring the numerous islands on Lake Bunyonyi.
Day 6: Return to Kigali
Today, it’s back over to the Katuna boarder and on to Kigali city, where this trip will wrap up late in the afternoon. If you have time, why not hit the town and try the local food? Depending on your flight time, be dropped off at Kigali airport for your departure flight.
