15 Days Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Transfer from Kigali (Rwanda) international airport to Mgahinga national park in southwestern Uganda. On this journey, you will travel through the rolling hills of Rwanda, through Ruhengeri in the musanze province and head to the border. This drive will give you a chance to view the Virunga chain volcanoes and Lake Mutanda during occasional stop overs, and take pictures to capture the beautiful scenery of the mountains and the lake. Arrive at your lodge for check, have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking
Have breakfast at 7:00am, and proceed for golden monkey trekking at 8:00am, here you will get a chance of trekking the world’s old monkeys that exist only in the bamboo forest zones on the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes. This is the only place in the world where these endangered primates are located. You will have the opportunity to habituate the golden monkeys, and experience that lasts between 2 to 6 hours; and have a full day of fun with these social beauties.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Have breakfast at 7:00 am and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest. This is a 3-hour drive, on the way you will have a stopover in Kisoro town where you will able to view the lava tube caves that were once used as a safe haven during ancient civil wars. You will have a beautiful site of the Mwambike and Ruhenju caves located in Gigozi parish. Then continue your journey to Bwindi national park, arriving for check in at the lodge, relax the whole evening, have dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Bwindi Gorilla Trekking
Early breakfast at 6:30am, then head to the headquarters for briefing about what to do and what not to do during the gorilla trek. It is during the briefing that you will be divided into groups of 8 and assigned to trek a specific gorilla family. Trekking lasts for 2 -6 hours, and you are allowed to spend utmost one hour with the gorilla family when you finally find it.
Meeting face to face with gorillas is truly an epic encounter as these are very social animals and sometimes they come too close allowing excellent sighting and great photography. After this fun experience, trek back to the lodge and have a free afternoon or undertake a community walk to the neighboring Batwa pygmies.
Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Early breakfast 8:00am and transfer from Bwindi national park to Queen Elizabeth national park, a journey of 3 hours’ drive. While on the way, you will make a stop over in Ishasha sector for tree climbing lions’ experience. View these rare lions as they hang on tree branches waiting for their ‘meal’ the Uganda Kobs. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park after this game drive. Check in at a lodge where you will have an overnight stay and dinner.
Day 6: Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Ride
Early breakfast, head out for a game drive where you will see different wild life species such as buffaloes, hyenas and elephants together with birds such as African Jacana, stock, among others. In the afternoon, go for a 2 pm boat cruise along the famous Kazinga channel where you will view numerous reptiles, such as Crocodiles, hippos and other mammal and bird species. After these activities, you will relax at your lodge where you will have an overnight and dinner.
Day 7: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Have breakfast then transfer from Queen Elizabeth national park to Kibale national park, a journey of 2-3 hour drive via Kasese – Fort Portal route. In Fort portal, drive Nyakasura hills and visit the Amabeere Ga Nyina Mwiru caves, these are spiritual and historical caves that are believed to have come from breasts of a royal. These caves are shaped as cones, giving way for the Nyakasura falls to flow naturally. Drive to your lodge in Kibale national park after this experience.
Day 8: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale
Early breakfast, then set off to Kanyanchu park headquarters for pre-trek briefing. Thereafter, begin the trek. This walk will enable you view the beautiful chimpanzees in their natural home and learn about their lifestyle. These primates are so amazing and fun as they keep jumping from on tree to the other, sometimes even making photography so difficult. An experience with chimps is generally lively and memorable. Return to the lodge for lunch, and relax the entire afternoon or undertake an optional Bigodi wetland walk.
Day 9: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
Have breakfast at 6:30AM then transfer from Kibale national park to Murchison falls national park. This is a 7 hour drive. On the way you will have a stopover in Hoima town and visit the Mparo tombs where you will learn more about the Bunyoro kingdom and see the burial grounds of the ancient kings. And then head to the lodge in Murchison falls national park where you will have dinner and sleep over.
Day 10: Game Drive & Boat Cruise
Early breakfast at 6:30am and head for a game drive in the morning at 7:00am. During this game drive visitors are rewarded with the views of beautiful wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards can be spotted occasionally. Amazing birdlife such as the Great Blue Turaco, goliath heron and so many others can be spotted.
After lunch, transfer to Paraa jetty for a pleasant afternoon boat cruise to bottom of the falls. During this boat trip you will see hippos, Nile crocodiles, water birds and so much more. Upon reaching the bottom of the falls, get off the boat and begin your hike to view the falls from the top. Later on be driven back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: Transfer to Kampala
Breakfast at 8:00am and later transfer from Murchison falls NP to Kampala. A journey that will take about 6 hours. Enroute you will have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary. Have an exciting rhino trekking experience, plus bird watching. For about one hour, later retreat for lunch and proceed to Kampala city at a hotel were you will have dinner overnight.
Day 12: City Tour in Kampala
Have breakfast at 8:00am then head for a city tour where you will visit the ‘Kisenyi’ – a Kampala slum and experience the life of the ghetto, then visit Owino market – the oldest market in the city that offers a variety of commodities, then head to Kabaka’s palace in Mengo where you will learn more about different traditions of the Baganda people.
Finish the tour with a visit to the towering Gaddafi mosque that is situated a top Kampala’s oldest and tallest hills, offering you up to 360 degree views of the entire city. After Kampala city tour, drive through to Mabira forest for a night of camping.
Day 13: Transfer to Jinja Town
Have breakfast at 8:00am, and head out for a nature walk in Mabira forest where you will view the lush flora, fauna and sight different species of birds. Experience zip lining adventure and drive to Jinja town later on. Check into your hotel and then have a taste of Jinja night life.
Day 14: White Water Rafting & Bungee Jumping
Have breakfast at 8:00am, and head for half day water rafting on the White Nile in Jinja, this is a thrilling but at the same time a fun experience that will create wonderful memories as you raft through the rugged waters of river Nile. In the afternoon after lunch, embark on the bungee jumping experience. This is also another exciting adventure that is fun and satisfying. After you will head to the hotel, where you will have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 15: Transfer to Entebbe & Departure
Have breakfast then transfer from Jinja town to Entebbe airport for departure, as this will be the last day of your 15 days all-round Uganda tour.
