Detailed 4-Day Uganda Double Trekking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Nkuringo sector)
Meet and greet with our company representative on this first day of your 4-Day Double Gorilla Trekking Tour in Bwindi, who will brief you about the itinerary. Pick up from the airport or hotel in Kigali to begin your journey to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Uganda’s magical home of mountain gorillas.
The journey through the land of a thousand hills is very scenic, marked by extensive plantations, rolling hills, Virunga ranges, and lush landscapes as you make your way into the mighty Pearl of Africa. You cross into Uganda via the Katuna border and soon make a lunch stop in nearby Kabale town.
Take a tour of the cultural museum or visit the local market before proceeding to the Nkuringo sector in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for relaxation and an overnight stay. Nkuringo region is located in the west of Bwindi, about 55 km from Kabale town. The region boasts up to 3 gorilla families that are well habituated and ready for trekking all year round.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Nkuringo & Transfer to Rushaga Region of Bwindi
Rise nice and early this morning of your 4-Day Double Gorilla Trekking Tour in Bwindi, ready to begin the Big – adventure. Head to the ranger station and be briefed about the rules of the game – what to do and what not to do while mountain gorilla trekking. Be allocated a family to track and off you go with your ranger guide, trackers, and porters. The search for mountain gorillas begins!
Along the way, avid birdwatchers will be delighted; in addition to the Rwenzori endemics, more than 450 species of birds inhabit the impenetrable forest. Other forest mammals, monkeys, baboons, amphibians, and butterflies also call this place home.
The trek can take as little as 30 minutes but can also take as long as 7 hours, depending on the movement of the family you’re trekking.
After finding the gorillas, you have only one hour for photography and observing mountain gorillas as they go about their routine, feeding, and juveniles playing.
Return to the starting point, collect your certificate to confirm that you completed a gorilla trek in Uganda, and head straight to your lodge.
In the afternoon, you will transfer to the southern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park; Rushaga, where you’ll undertake your second gorilla trek the next day.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga
After an early breakfast on this third day of your 4-Day Double Gorilla Trekking Tour in Bwindi, prepare for yet another big adventure in another gorilla region – Rushaga. Rushaga is home to 5 gorilla families, more than any other region in Uganda.
Proceed to the starting point for a briefing by the head ranger and begin your gorilla tracking journey thereafter. Along the trek, you will penetrate the “impenetrable” rainforest (gorilla sanctuary), which offers an exciting, heavily forested, and lush landscape marked by plenty of mammal trails that provide access for tourists during tracking.
These resident animals include buffaloes, elephants, leopards (rare), amphibians, primates, and more.
Within an hour or two, you’ll be amidst these lovely apes. Observing, spending time with, and photographing these gentle, peaceful, and shy apes is ultimately unique in every sense, breathtaking, and an inspiring wildlife experience that will stay in your memories not only for a very long time but ever creating the urge to come back for more.
Later after tracking, enjoy your packed lunch in the jungles and transfer back to the lodge to refresh. The evening is dedicated to a community experience on the periphery of Bwindi forest.
Do not miss joining the Batwa in their traditional dance and listening to their inspiring songs. A great way to end the day!
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali
After a leisurely cup of coffee on this last day of your 4 Days double gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi, start the journey back to Kigali, driving for about 4 hours passing via Kisoro / Cyanika border.
The drive is quite long though impressive as you traverse the Rwandan countryside marked with rural homesteads, agricultural farms, and views of the Virunga chain of mountains.
Reach Kigali in the afternoon, have lunch, and spend the rest of the day exploring the city. Kigali is beautiful with its overlooking hills, towering skyscrapers plus many museums, monuments, and historical spots. Explore all the attractions in Kigali and return just in time to check in at the airport for your departure flight.
