Detailed 4-Day Bwindi Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, your guide will pick you up for a short Kigali city tour before driving to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience
Have an early breakfast at your lodge, then transfer to the trailhead for your Bwindi gorilla trek.
At the trailhead, park rangers brief you on what to expect and the guidelines to follow during the trek, along with tips for gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
You’ll also be assigned a gorilla family during this briefing, generally matched to your fitness level. Even so, trekking time can vary depending on the gorillas’ movements that day.
You may find your assigned group in under 3 hours. Once you meet the gorillas, you spend an hour with them before returning to the starting point to collect your gorilla trekking certificate, then head back to your lodge to rest.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Take a morning nature walk in Bwindi, then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in the afternoon. Lake Bunyonyi, in Kabale, ranks among the most scenic lakes in the world.
It holds over 25 islands, each with its own history. Take an afternoon canoe ride on the lake, visiting several islands, including Punishment Island. Return to your lodge afterward to rest.
Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi and Transfer to Kigali
Spend the morning resting at Lake Bunyonyi. Optional activities are available for this day, including visits to the Abaheesi community or the Batwa, cycling, and birdwatching. These activities are priced separately and aren’t included in the base package.
Transfer back to Kigali, where you’ll be dropped at your preferred accommodation or at Kigali International Airport for your flight home.
