Detailed 4-Day Double Gorilla Trekking Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali Airport for your 4-Day Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Tour, clear customs and collect your baggage. A representative will be waiting to welcome you and brief you thoroughly on the safari ahead.

Take a cup of coffee to energize from the long flight and prepare to transfer northwards to Volcanoes National Park. You will be directly transferred to your hotel, check in, and have lunch.

After lunch, take a leisurely drive to the base of Mount Muhabura, home to the mesmerizing twin lakes. A tour of the twin lakes is marked by the magnificence of natural wonders, the tranquil green waters of Burera and Ruhondo, surrounded by lush green vegetation that enhances their magical beauty.

The trip to these impressive lakes offers tourists stunning views of Rwanda’s amazing landscape, the wetland habitat, Virunga ranges, countless water birds, local communities, and several attractions in Rwanda and neighboring countries like Uganda and D.R. Congo. Overnight stay at your lodge on the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in PNV

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be taken to Volcanoes National Park headquarters to join your group for a briefing before starting your gorilla tracking experience.

The trek follows the footsteps of the rare and critically endangered Mountain Gorillas, the largest living primate on earth, through the cultivated foothills of the Virungas, home to other mountain dwellers including buffaloes and elephants.

The rain-forest comes alive with colorful bird calls, butterflies, monkeys, baboons, and other primates. Despite being among the highest in Africa, the Virunga Mountains are easily accessible.

Upon encountering them, you will have an hour to stay with the gorillas, observing them feed, play, rest, and care for their young. Having an up-close personal encounter with a giant silverback is undoubtedly one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth!

Afterwards, trek back to the starting point where your guide will be waiting to drive you back to your hotel for a well-deserved shower and lunch. Spend the afternoon resting on the balcony, reflecting on this great adventure.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in PNV

Enjoy another early breakfast at your hotel and then be taken to Volcanoes National Park headquarters, where you will join your group for a briefing at 07:00 am before starting your second gorilla tracking experience.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, the Ex-Poachers Village, an award-winning conservation initiative where former poachers were convinced to renounce their ways and become conservation activists.

With their families, they established this community village with a replica of the King’s palace, participating in eco-tourism showcasing Rwandan culture and traditions. A tour of Iby’Iwacu village is interactive, educational, and fun for all ages.

Day 4: Visit Musanze Caves & Transfer to Kigali

Take an early morning tour to Musanze Caves, historical caves on the outskirts of Musanze dating back to ancient Rwanda and renowned refuge for numerous bats.

Return to the lodge for a cup of coffee, check out, and drive to Kigali. Upon arrival, take a Kigali city tour including a visit to the Genocide Memorial Museum at Gisozi, interaction with locals to discover artisan products (collars, bracelets, etc.), shopping at Kigali Craft Market, and then transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.

This marks the end of your 4-Day Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Tour.
