Detailed 3-Day Queen Elizabeth Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early in the morning after breakfast, your 3-Day Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Safari from Kigali will start with a tour guide picking you up from your hotel or from an early morning flight at Kigali International Airport.

Drive to the north-western part of Rwanda. You will have stopovers at various viewpoints to take pictures of endless tea plantations, settlement patterns, and the Virunga ranges in the background.

Proceed to the border point at Katuna near Kabale town. Take a route heading to Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through Ishasha sector, a famous place for tracking the rare climbing lions.

You will do a short game drive here to discover one of the world’s remaining populations of climbing lions, only found in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania.

During the Ishasha game drive, you won’t only spot climbing lions, but also a myriad of other mammals like elephants, warthogs, buffaloes, antelopes, Uganda Kobs, Topis, and many species of birds. Proceed to your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive/Afternoon Boat Cruise at Kazinga Channel

After an early breakfast on this second day of your 3 Days Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Safari from Kigali, head out for a game viewing drive around the most populated regions of Queen Elizabeth Park for an excellent opportunity to see a spectrum of animals.

Considering it’s an early morning drive, you may have the chance to see elusive predators and other nocturnal animals returning to their hideouts.

The Kasenyi area rewards visitors with views of animals such as spotted hyenas, elephants, lions, leopards, Uganda Kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, and hippos. The sparkling views of resident crater lakes surrounding this area are a wonder to behold.

After the game drive, return to your lodge or to Mweya restaurant for a picnic lunch and refreshments, then proceed to Mweya Jetty.

The Mweya boat ride sets off at 2:00 pm and returns at 4:00 pm. It sails along the Kazinga Channel, a river that joins Lake George with Lake Edward.

The cruise takes a maximum of 2 hours and offers fantastic views of game such as buffaloes, antelopes, and several notable species of birds. After this sensational boat cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Return to Kigali City

Have a leisurely breakfast and set off back to Kigali to mark the end of this melodramatic 3-day wildlife tour in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Exit through Kabatoro Gate and make a stopover at the equator for photos. Participate in the water experiment, if time allows, to understand the changes that occur to objects while at the equator.

Proceed south, driving past the Kigezi highlands and eventually reach Kabale town.

Have lunch here, visit a cultural museum, purchase some African-made souvenirs, and continue to the border point for check-in. Continue to Kigali, arriving in the evening for an overnight stay or catch your onward flight.
