Detailed 7-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
On this first day of your family trip to Tanzania, be picked up from Arusha in the morning after breakfast and then head to Tarangire National Park in the northern part of Tanzania.
Arrive in the afternoon after a drive that lasts about 3 hours for a mid-day lunch, which will be followed by a game drive.
During this evening game drive, you will spot different animals like elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, giraffes, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests, rhinos, and much more.
Return to the lodge for your accommodation in the evening.
Day 2: Full day in Tarangire National Park
This is a wonderful day when you will explore the deep park premises through game drives that will stretch to the different rivers.
Game drives will be two, but they will depend on your choice, each of them exposing you to different wildlife, flora, and amazing birdlife.
You will encounter many wonders while in the savannah plains, such as sunrise, sunset, and a picnic lunch. Animals that will be spotted include lions, leopards, white and black rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and many others.
Each game drive will last for 2 to 3 hours but will be filled with great memories.
Day 3: Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park
Have a short game drive in the park, and then you will head to Lake Manyara National Park. This park is known for its rare tree-climbing lions and is also full of birdlife along with various wild animals.
Arrive in the afternoon and take an evening game drive where you will spot animals like elephants, lions, giraffes, warthogs, and different antelopes like the kobs, bushbucks, waterbucks, and much more.
Head to the lodge where you will spend the night.
Day 4: Drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge
Have a morning breakfast and then drive to Serengeti National Park with a stopover at Olduvai Gorge, a historical site first discovered by Dr. Leakey and his wife, Mary Leakey, in 1952.
The Leakey family discovered the remains of an early man at this point, toured around the museum, and viewed different tools that were used by ancient Africans.
Proceed and take your picnic lunch at Naabi Gate. Upon reaching the park, take an evening game drive where you will spot different animals like impalas, wildebeests, lions, buffaloes, hyenas, elephants, and much more.
This park is filled with various wildlife and is known to be one of the biggest national parks in the country.
Day 5: Full day in Serengeti National Park
Have breakfast at the lodge and proceed for morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti’s golden savannahs.
You will spot an amazing number of animals such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, hyenas, jackals, elands, and wildebeests.
Have a great time spotting the annual movement of wildebeests crossing to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
Lunch can be a picnic or a hot lunch at the lodge, depending on your choice.
Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Head to Ngorongoro Conservation Area after breakfast, located roughly 230km southeast of Serengeti National Park. Along the way, you will visit the Masai homesteads to enjoy rich cultural interactions, including traditional music and dances.
Head to the park premises where you will begin a game drive on the crater rim, spotting animals like giraffes, hippos, elephants, zebras, and birdlife, including pink flamingos.
Head to the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer back to Arusha
Have breakfast early enough and descend to the bottom of the Ngorongoro Crater for a sunrise game drive, rewarding you with everlasting moments to enjoy the best views of Africa’s landscape.
Head back to Arusha later on and be dropped off at the airport, which will mark the end of your 7-day Tanzania family safari.
