Day 1: Kigali to Bukavu city (gateway to Kahuzi-Biega National Park)
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport for your 3-Day Congo Lowland Gorilla & Chimpanzee Trekking Tour, you will be met and greeted by our company representative who will brief you on what to expect during this three-day adventure.
The journey to Kahuzi – Biega National Park begins with a refreshing juice and lasts approximately 4-5 hours, with a lunch break in Huye or Butare and passport verification at the border, offering spectacular views of the countryside.
Upon arrival in Bukavu city, you will be taken to your lodge for refreshments, dinner, and a restful night.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After a morning wake-up call, enjoy a hearty cup of coffee before being transported to the park headquarters with your luggage and packed lunch. Upon arrival, the ranger guides will welcome you to the paradise of lowland gorillas for passport verification and briefing.
You will spend approximately 30 minutes learning about the apes and what to expect during your trek, followed by a 1-6 hour trek to locate and observe them in their natural habitat. Although challenging, this excursion is incredibly rewarding as you will have an hour to take photos and learn about the gorilla family assigned to you before lunch.
Filled with joy, you will depart and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda, with magnificent views of Lake Kivu perfect for capturing photos. In the evening, you will arrive at your lodge within or near the park for dinner and a relaxing evening.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking & Departure
After an invigorating sunrise coffee, head to the park headquarters for a briefing and begin the ultimate chimpanzee trekking experience. The ranger guides will review everyone’s paperwork and explain trekking regulations before embarking on a trek that can last from one to four hours, depending on the apes’ movements and trekking pace.
This jungle trek is not just about chimpanzees; you will also have opportunities to see rare flora, monkeys, and other wildlife species. Capture photos and learn more about the chimpanzees’ lives during your hour-long visit. Following a delightful lunch, depart for Kigali city or another drop-off point.
