Detailed Congo Lowland Gorillas & Rwanda Chimpanzee Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Bukavu city (gateway to Kahuzi – Biega National Park)
You will be met and greeted by our company representative upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, who will brief and explain what to expect at the end of the three-day adventure. The journey to Kahuzi – Biega National Park begins with a glass of juice and lasts roughly 4-5 hours, with a pause for lunch in Huye or Butare and passport verification at the border, as well as spectacular views of the countryside. Following your arrival in Bukavu city, you will be taken to your lodge for refreshment, dinner, and beautiful slumber.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After getting out of bed, you’ll have an energetic cup of coffee before being transported to the park headquarters with your luggage and packed lunch. For passport verification and briefing, the ranger guides will welcome you to the lowland gorillas’ paradise. It takes roughly 30 minutes to be taught on the Apes and what to expect during your walk, and 1-6 hours to hunt for and locate them from where they were last seen. It’s a tiring excursion, but it’ll be worth your time and effort because you’ll have an hour to snap photos and learn about the Gorilla family to which you’ve been assigned before a lunch break.
Overwhelmed by joy, you will check out and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda, with a magnificent views of Lake Kivu for some photos. In the evening, you’ll arrive at your lodge in or near the park for dinner and a relaxing siesta.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and departure
You’ll drive to the park headquarters for a briefing and the start of the ultimate chimpanzee experience after a wake-up stimulating cup of coffee at sunrise. The ranger guides examine everyone’s paperwork and explain the trekking restrictions during the briefing before accompanying you on a trekking experience that can last anywhere from one to four hours, depending on how far the Apes have moved and how fast you walk.
The jungle walk isn’t just for chimpanzees, you’ll also have the chance to see some unusual flora, monkeys and other wildlife species. An hour is a bonus for you to shoot photos and learn more about the chimps’ lives. Afterwards, there will be a lovely lunch and then an onward drive to Kigali city or any other drop-off point.
