Detailed 4-Day Congo Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Virunga National Park
Our company representative will gladly meet and brief you upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport. This session will explain what will happen during your three-day gorilla trekking trip in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Enjoy a cup of juice in Kigali City with views of the breathtaking countryside, rolling hills, and scattered flora before commencing on a 5-hour beautiful trip to Virunga National Park.
Have a brief stop at the border station for paperwork verification, followed by lunch. Then, drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Start the day with a hot cup of coffee at the lodge, then drive to the park headquarters with your hiking boots, trekking documents, packed lunch, and other essentials for a briefing and assignment of a gorilla family to trek. A maximum of 8 people trek with each gorilla family for 1-8 hours, depending on their location.
Mountain gorillas are enormous yet shy and accommodating. While searching, head to where they were last seen, followed by a walk through the park’s broken branches and leaves, where you can see and hear various birds, monkeys, and mammals.
After an hour of photographing and observing these apes’ unique behaviors, such as feeding methods of mothers, silverback poses, and the play of young ones, enjoy a lunch break before checking out and being transferred to Kahuzi-Biega National Park for Eastern lowland gorilla trekking. End the day with dinner and a relaxing sleep.
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trekking
At daybreak, enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge, then head to the park headquarters for paperwork verification and a briefing on hiking dos and don’ts. The briefing lasts about 30 minutes, followed by a 1 to 6-hour journey through the jungle, where you’ll encounter other monkeys, birds, and flora.
After meeting your assigned gorilla family, you’ll have an hour for photos and observations in their domain.
Afterward, enjoy a lunch break before opting for a cultural experience in nearby settlements, including dancing, singing, and engaging with locals. Return to the lodge for dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.
Day 4: Departure
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the resort before departing for a drive to Kigali International Airport for your flight to your next destination or home. The route features undulating hills, lush vegetation, and scattered homesteads.
