Detailed Lowland Gorillas Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Virunga National Park
Our company representative will gladly meet and brief you after your arrival at Kigali International Airport. This session will entail what will happen during your three-day gorilla trekking trip in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Before commencing on a 5-hour beautiful trip to Virunga National Park, a cup of juice will be savored in Kigali City, with views of the breathtaking countryside, rolling hills and sprinkled flora.
Have a brief stop at the border station for paperwork verification, followed by lunch. You’ll then drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking and transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Start the day with a hot cup of coffee at the lodge, then drive to the park headquarters with your hiking boots, trekking documents, packed lunch, and other essentials for a briefing and assignment of a gorilla family to trek. A maximum of 8 people trek with each gorilla family for 1-8 hours, depending on how far they have traveled.
Mountain gorillas are enormous, but shy and accommodating. While searching, the first place to go is where they were last seen, followed by a walk through the park’s broken branches and leaves, where one can see and hear the various birds, monkeys, and mammals.
After an hour of photographing and studying these apes’ unique behaviors, such as the Mothers’ feeding methods, silverback poses and games of the youngstars, you will have lunch break before checking out and being transferred right to Kahuzi – Biega National Park for Eastern lowland gorilla trekking. Dinner and a relaxing snooze are the perfect way to end the day.
Day 3: Lowland gorilla trekking
At daybreak, treat your intestines to a hearty breakfast at the lodge, then head to the park headquarters for paperwork verification and a briefing about the dos and don’ts of hiking. The training lasts for about 30 minutes, followed by a 1 to 6-hour trip through the jungle, where you’ll see other monkeys, birds, and flora. Following your appointment with the Gorilla family, you get an hour to take photos and inquire about your cousins the Gorillas in their domain.
After that, you will have a lunch break before embarking on an optional cultural experience in the adjacent settlements, which will include dancing, singing, and engaging with the locals. After that, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing night stay.
