This 4-Day Congo Lowland Gorilla & Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Tour will take you to two national parks in different countries where you will be able to trek the two big apes: the chimpanzees of Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda, and lowland gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, D.R. Congo.
You will have a chance to spot other small primates like the colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and also different birds that will create eye-catching moments.

Detailed 4-Day Gorillas & Chimpanzee Trekking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Depart Kigali & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Leave Kigali city and transfer to Nyungwe National Park where you will be able to enjoy the presence of chimpanzees. Nyungwe forest is very interesting and unique in its way, hosting over 13 primate species and more than 250 bird species.
This biodiversity has attracted avid birders, chimpanzee trackers, and canopy walk adventurers. The journey will take about 5 hours’ drive including different stopovers. Arrive at the designated lodge and check in to your accommodation.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Bukavu
Head to the park offices for a briefing which will take about 20 minutes. Learn about the dos and don’ts that you need to follow while in the forest to protect both yourself and the primates.
Dos and don’ts include no feeding animals, avoiding making noise in the forest, and more. Thereafter, head into the forest to start the search and upon locating them, spend a maximum of one hour in their presence.
Later, enjoy an adventure trekking back to the park offices. Meet the driver guide who will take you back to the lodge for lunch and then transfer to Bukavu City in eastern DR Congo where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Head to Kahuzi-Biega National Park offices where you will have a short briefing about the gorilla tour and then head to the forest to start your search. Encounter them in their natural habitats on the slopes of the two extinct Volcano Mountains – Kahuzi and Biega, and learn about the largest apes on planet earth.
Spend an hour in their presence watching them move, play, feed, and lead the group. Head back to the lodge for lunch with an option to visit Bukavu city in the evening.
Day 4: Transfer Back to Kigali City
Head to Kigali city after crossing the border between Rwanda and D.R. Congo. Upon arrival, you will be dropped at the airport to conclude this 4-day D.R. Congo Lowland Gorillas & Rwanda Chimpanzee Safari.
