3-Day Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage Visit in DRC – Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage is one of the best gorilla destinations in Africa, located at the headquarters of the great Virunga National Park. The orphanage was named after the deceased leader of the Rugendo gorilla family, Senkwekwe, who led his family until his demise in 2007 by rebels.

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali International Airport and Transfer to Virunga National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet our driver guide who will give you a short briefing about the safari. Continue with a short Kigali city tour, passing by places such as local markets, shops, and the Genocide Memorial Center.
Have lunch at your chosen hotel and then drive to Virunga National Park, approximately 151 kilometers away (about 5 hours and 23 minutes).
Check into your chosen lodge upon arrival, have dinner, and spend the night.
Day 2: Visiting Senkwekwe Orphanage
A new day has come, and great things are about to happen! After breakfast, meet your driver and head to Senkwekwe Orphanage Center to spend time with mountain gorillas. It’s an amazing experience as you learn about the gorillas that have been rescued, observe their interactions with caretakers, and take pictures with them. Some of the gorillas found here include Maisha, Yalala, Kaboko, Ndakasi, Ndeze, and Matabishi.
Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Spend the remaining hours reading a book or magazine in the lodge compound or opt for an evening walk in the nearby parts of the park.
Have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3: Transfer to Kigali – Departure
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet your driver for the drive back to Kigali city. Enjoy lunch en route and proceed to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight back home, concluding this 3-Day Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage Visit.
