Day 1: Arrival and overnight in Kigali, Rwanda
Meet and greet at the airport with our assigned driver guide who will brief you about this 6-Day Lowland Gorilla Safari & Mount Nyiragongo Hiking Adventure.
Thereafter, head to a hotel with an option to tour around the city where you will visit different attractions like historical places such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Grounds, the former Presidential Palace Museum, and many others.
Day 2: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Head to D.R. Congo, traversing Rwanda’s western region towards Kahuzi-Biega National Park where you will enjoy a gorilla experience amidst beautiful landscapes.
The park is located between two mountains – Kahuzi and Biega, from which it derives its name. Check into the lodge and optionally take a city tour in Bukavu depending on arrival time.
Day 3: Kahuzi-Biega National Park; lowland gorilla trekking
Trek the largest apes on planet earth starting with breakfast at the lodge followed by a briefing at the park offices. This briefing session is crucial as it guides you through the forest. The park guide will lead the way as you follow into the forest.
Spend an hour in the presence of a lowland gorilla family, creating memorable adventures as you observe them play, feed, and walk. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Goma town
Leave Kahuzi-Biega National Park after a leisurely breakfast and prepare for the journey northwards to the Virunga region.
Enjoy the drive, passing through rolling hills and the Virunga Mountains of D.R. Congo. Arrive in the evening and proceed to your booked hotel.
Day 5: Hike Mount Nyiragongo
Head to the park offices for a briefing covering various aspects of the hike. At this point, hire necessary materials such as hiking sticks, camping tents, porters, cooks, and more.
Start the hike through the lowland forest, home to various wildlife including primates, mammals, and birds.
Enjoy stunning views of numerous volcanoes in the Virunga Conservation Area. Reach the summit and marvel at the boiling Lava Lake below, creating exciting memories.
Spend the night on the summit taking photos, then retire at the crater rim huts for the night.
Day 6: Descend and transfer back to Kigali, Rwanda
