Day 1: Arrival and transfer to your hotel in Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport where the driver guide will assist you with your luggage and transfer you directly to your booked hotel in Kigali. Kigali is renowned for its cleanliness and beautiful landscape, backed by the towering Mount Kigali. If you arrive early, you can opt for a city tour to explore both cultural and historical attractions.
Day 2: Short city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Take a short tour to explore the city of Kigali in central Rwanda. Here, you will visit places like local markets, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, the former Presidential Palace Museum, and more. Afterward, head to Volcanoes National Park, one of the great national parks located in the Virunga Massif, known for its significant population of mountain gorillas.
Cross the border into Rwanda and D.R. Congo, which will be another experience where you can acquire a visa if you don’t already have one. Arrive at the lodge in the evening and prepare for your adventure the next day.
Day 3: Mountain gorilla trekking
After breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience following a briefing session. You will receive guidelines to follow in the forest to ensure your safety and the well-being of these gentle giants. Spend an hour in their presence.
The trek can last from 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the mountain gorilla family. After the experience, descend back to the starting point, return to the lodge for lunch, leisure time, and dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge in Volcanoes National Park and then transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in D.R. Congo. The journey may take approximately 7 hours. Day 5: Lowland gorilla trekking adventure
Head to the park office where you will meet with other trekkers and the ranger guide for a briefing. This marks the starting point of your trekking adventure. During the briefing, you will learn about the do’s and don’ts, including rules and regulations to follow in the forest for your safety and the wildlife’s welfare, and verify your gorilla trekking permits.
Begin your search with the guidance of a well-armed ranger guide towards the lowland slopes of Mount Kahuzi and Biega, where these magnificent gorillas reside. The experience lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours, with one hour granted in their presence for photography, videos, and more.
Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali city
Enjoy your final breakfast of the safari before your guide drives you back to Rwanda, crossing the border.
