Day 1: Arrival, Kigali City Tour, and Transfer to Virunga National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport for your 3-Day Virunga Gorilla Trekking & Lake Kivu Beach Holiday, you will meet our professional driver/guide who will lead you on a short Kigali city tour.
The tour is wonderful as it includes a visit to the historical Genocide Memorial Center, where you can see the names and remains of those who died during the 1994 Rwanda genocide.
Drive to a hotel of your choice for lunch. After lunch, embark on the 186-kilometer road northwest to Virunga National Park. Check into your chosen lodge upon arrival for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park and Return to Gisenyi – Lake Kivu
After an early morning breakfast on the second day of your 3-day Virunga gorillas & Lake Kivu beach holiday safari, meet your driver and head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be guided on what to do and what not to do during the trek.
You will be assigned a specific gorilla family to trek. The park has about 8 gorilla families located in different sectors of the park. You will then be assigned a ranger and start the adventure.
You will be given one hour to spend with these creatures upon meeting them. Take as many pictures as you wish but do not use a flash camera.
Spending time with these great apes is real fun as you watch them play, jump from tree to tree, socialize, and more.
In addition to mountain gorillas, you will see a number of other animal species such as golden monkeys, bird species, and tree species, among others. Return to your lodge for lunch. After lunch, embark on the 5 to 6-hour journey to Lake Kivu. The journey comprises rolling hills, trading centers, lush vegetation, and plantations.
Check into the lodge of your choice upon arrival and enjoy dinner as well as a lovely night.
Day 3: Morning Boat Cruise on Lake Kivu and Transfer to Kigali – Departure
Wake up in the morning on the last day of your 3-day Virunga gorillas & Lake Kivu beach holiday safari, have a delicious breakfast at your hotel/resort, and then embark on a morning boat cruise on Lake Kivu.
Lake Kivu is one of the biggest and deepest freshwater lakes in Africa, known for its beautiful beaches. The cruise introduces you to water animals such as crocodiles, hippopotamuses, and water birds, some of which are endemic to the area.
After the cruise, drive back to Kigali city with a stopover for lunch, and then continue to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home. This marks the end of your 3-Day Virunga Gorilla Trekking & Lake Kivu Beach Holiday.
